Not familiar with the Term SEO? It stands for “Search Engine Optimization”. The process of optimizing your blog content to get free and organic traffic from search results on search engines. Every blogger and website owner wants their articles to be featured on search results. Of course, that is the best free way of getting huge traffic to your blog

SEO is one factor every blogger should be concerned about, because without it, your blog is getting nowhere around search engine

Blogger as a free blogging platform has a very limited ability when it come to SEO unlike other CMS like joomla and self hosted WordPress which have tons of plug-in that allow you do SEO with little or no hassle.

To make a BlogSpot blog SEO friendly, you may need to add or tweak the template code a little, but first, you will have to submit your blog to search engines to make them aware of your blog existence.

Steps to make a BlogSpot blog SEO friendly

  •  Add a dynamic title tag

By default, blogger has just one title tag which represents the blog title. Meanwhile, search engines want display not only the blog title, but also the page title of all posts and pages on search result.

To correct this, head over to themes > HTML. Use ctrl+F to find the following code:

And replace the entire line of code –from <title> to </title> with the following lines of code

Then hit SAVE.

Load your blog on another tab to see the changes.

  • Add meta tags

Meta tags are lines of codes primarily made for machines such as search engine bots to understand your blog better. The <meta> element is basically used to specify page description, author name, last modified, keywords, etc.

To make your blog more SEO friendly, tell your server, user’s browser and search engine bot about it and how to render it by adding meta tags to your blog template.

Navigate to theme > HTML. Use ctrl+f to find <body> and just below it, add the following codes:

#1. Tell search engine robots not to index archive page

#2. Tell search engine to fetch your meta description

#4. Tell search engine what keywords to use to find your blog

#5. Tell search engine what keywords to use to find your single blog posts

And then,  hit save and Load up your blog in another tab and view the source code. If it was done well, you will be able to see your description and keywords, etc.

  •  Write rich informative content

To write a blog post that you want to rank for a particular keyword, search for other blogs that have already ranked higher on that same keyword, read there blog post and see if you can add more value to what they already have and write yours to contain more information, perhaps, you could rank higher.
