Easy and safe ways to protect your website content

protecting your site content

Probably, you have experienced that annoying moment when some lazy copywriters copy almost every single content of your article without at least giving you a single link back and still rank higher than you in search engines like Google and Bing. Yes, its so annoying. After spending like one or two weeks putting down ideas only for someone to come and copy.

Why your work is being copied

Your content is being copied because of the following reasons:

1. You passed a very useful information -
A good market sells its self. When a rich content is published, it attracts traffic. One of the reasons why copy cats manipulate your content is simply because you gave a meaningful information. and secondly, they admit that you are just far better than them.

2. Ignorance -
they probably stepped into the blogsphare because they heard that bloging gives money. They have no idea what it is all about and so think that copy/paste is helpful anyway.

3. They are lazy -
Laziness can also turn someone into a copy cat. When they are too lazy to sit down for a while and write their article, they spend time online looking for good one to copy often without editing it.

How to know if your content is been copied

To find out who is coping your article, this is what to do:

1. Conduct search: once an article is published and indexed by search engines, it should appear on search results. So conducting series of search using your main keyword will show all articles related to yours and if that of your copiers are indexed you will be able to identify them.

2. Use of online tools:  there are online tools which can be used to scour the internet and see if your content is being used without your permission. amongst the best are :

How to protect your site content

1. Give copyright notice:- some people innocently copy contents from other sites without knowing the consequences. They think because it is on the internet, there is no penalty regarding copyright infringement. Giving a copyright notice just below every article on your blog / website will do good in driving copywriters away.

Tip: write your copyright notice in such way that readers understand your article is protected by copyright law.

2. Disable ‘select’ feature on your website:- when you make it impossible for your content to be highlighted, it is also impossible for it to be copied. Disabling select/highlight feature on your website will weaken copycats and drive them away.

How to do that?
Wordpress users can install a plugin called CopyProtect, while bloggers and traditional HTML users would just add some bit of JavaScript to the root of their website.

Steps to disable copy/paste on blogger

Login to blogger dashboard > click on templateclick HTML > use CTRL F to find </body> tag > paste the code bellow here. > hit save.

Code to copy:

 <script type='text/javascript'> if (typeof document.onselectstart!="undefined" ) { document.onselectstart=new Function ("return false" ); } else { document.onmousedown=new Function ("return false" ); document.onmouseup=new Function ("return true" ); } </script>

3. Try 33Across:- 33Across is a website where you can get a code that will be added to your website and get free backlink anytime your content is been copied.

You will also be notified anytime someone republished your work. It is just easy to use. Sign-up and set up your site, grab your code and add to your website. That’s all.

4. Add warter mark to your images:- whenever you create an image for your article, don’t forget to add wartemark to it. It tells everyone who sees the image the website where it was coppied.
